A growing body of literature suggests that introducing science in developmentally appropriate ways may support young children’s sensory explorations of their world and provide foundational knowledge and skills for lifelong science learning as well as a deeper appreciation of nature. Over the past two decades, science has increasingly become an integral part of early childhood curricula. Yet, our knowledge about the teaching and learning of science during the early years remains limited compared to other domains such as literacy and mathematics. Empirical studies, reviews, and policy analyses are needed to inform the theory and practice of teaching and learning of science in preschool and kindergarten classrooms.
For this very first special issue of the Journal of Childhood, Education & Society [JCES], we solicit papers that report empirical studies, reviews (integrative, critical, meta-analysis, etc), and policy analyses related to the Teaching and Learning of Science during the Early Years.
Researchers are invited to submit a proposal of no more than 500 words to explain their proposed papers. The authors of selected proposals will be invited to submit a full paper, which will undergo a double-blind peer review by the editorial board members and external reviewers.
The proposal submission can be sent to the following email address firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line Special Issue Early Science Education by March 1, 2021. The prospective authors will be notified by April 15, 2021, with full manuscripts due no later than July 15, 2021.
